LST Europe and & GTWC Endurance Paul Ricard: Successful start to the season with six podiums and class win

Big programme for Leipert Motorsport at the Circuit Paul Ricard (France). For the start of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe (LST) season, the team from Wegberg, supported by MOTUL, brought five Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO 2 to the south of France. The season opener was very successful with six podium finishes and one class win. In addition, Leipert Motorsport used the round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS Endurance Cup, the 1000 KM of Paul Ricard, as another effective test for the upcoming CrowdStrike 24h of Spa at the end of June.

Strong start to the season at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe (LST) at Paul Ricard

All seven drivers of the five Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO 2 used the official test and the free practice sessions, among other things, to familiarise themselves with the new Hankook tyres. In the qualifying sessions, the Leipert drivers impressed with strong finishes, including Pole position in the AM and LB Cup classes, in the 48-car field.

New Zealander Brendon Leitch (Pro class, # 86) has been racing as a soloist this season. He put in a strong performance in both races and finished third overall. Thus, he also occupies third place in the championship in the Pro classification.

Luxembourg’s Yury Wagner and Denmark’s Patrik Matthiesen (Pro Rating, #99) made their debut together at Paul Ricard. The two youngsters put in a good performance. In the first race, the pairing narrowly missed out on the Top10 in the Pro classification. In the second race, contact with a resulting puncture dashed their hopes of scoring points.

The Italian Gabriel Rindone (AM classification, #21) intends to take the title in the AM class this year, after two runner-up championships. In the first race, he led the AM field until the last lap. Then, clearly in the lead, the Italian was involved in a collision with a lapped rider and retired. With a clear victory in the second race, Rindone was able to limit the damage.

The Chinese Kerong Li and the US-American Jean-Francois Brunot (AM classification, #88) celebrated a great success in the first race with third place in class. From 10th on the grid, the duo fought their way up to third position. In the second race, the duo crossed the finish line in 8th place.

Jürgen Krebs (LB-Cup, #65) is also competing as a soloist this season. After good training performances with grid positions 4 and 1 in the class, the German also convinced in the races. In both races, his faultless performance was rewarded with P3 and a podium.

1000 KM Paul Ricard: Successful test run for Crowdstrike 24h of Spa

At the guest start in the Fanatec GT World Challenge, Kerong Li (CHN), Jean-Francois Brunot (USA) and Brendon Leitch (NZ) drove a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO1. The trio, who will also compete in the CrowdStrike 24h of Spa together with Gerhard Watzinger, used the maximum driving time to train procedures for the endurance classic together with the team.

In the race, the Leipert team convinced with a flawless performance. The Lamborghini GT3 #70 crossed the finish line in 7th place in the Silver Cup.

“We have made an excellent start in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. Six out of possible ten podium finishes is something to be proud of. The atmosphere in the team was very good, everyone did a great job. Realistically, we can fight for the championship in all three classes in which we compete. The team is highly motivated and we are looking forward to the next event.

During the test event with the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 at the 1000 kilometre race, the drivers were able to use the race perfectly to gain important experience for the 24h of Spa. The result, P7 in the Silver Cup, did not play a big role for this race. However, we are pleased that we were once again able to use the maximum available driving time without any problems.”

The next races for the team from Wegberg are already scheduled for next week. At the 100th edition of the 24h of Le Mans (France, 7-11 June), Leipert Motosport will start in the supporting programme. In the two 1-hour races of the Michelin Le Mans Cup, Gerhard Watzinger (USA)/Brendon Leitch (NZ) and Gabriel Rindone (I)/Patrick Kujala (FIN) will each drive a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2. The next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo will take place as part of the CrowdStrike 24h Spa from 28 June to 2 July.
