With a wide-ranging motorsport package, the team from Wegberg intends to fight for championship titles and victories in the 2021 season. In addition to increasing the Lamborghini Super Trofeo programme, participation in the ADAC GT4 Germany is confirmed. After several years of absence, Leipert Motorsport is also returning to GT3 racing and thus expanding its development programme for young and talented drivers.
In the 2019 season, Leipert Motorsport fought for the ADAC GT4 Germany title. Now the team is back after a one-year break. The young Spaniard Marc de Fulgencio, who caused with the team from Wegberg a huge stir as a junior driver in the DTM Trophy last year, shares the cockpit of the Leipert Mercedes AMG GT4 with 19-year-old German Robin Falkenbach. The team’s goal is to lead the two young drivers forward with their next career step and to aim for victory in the junior classification as well as competing for a top position outright.
Five Lamborghini Huracán in the Super Trofeo Europe!
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe programme, which has been running for eight years now, will be further expanded in 2021: No less than five Lamborghini Huracáns will be entered! In the PRO class, 2 cars will be entered with the driver combinations Sebastian Balthasar (GER) and Noah Watt (DEN) as well as for Dan Wells (GB) and Oscar Lee (USA). 3 vehicles will start in the AM class. Here the drivers Ray Calvin (CAN) and Gabriel Rindone (UAE) will take the wheel with the support of Matthias Hoffsümmer (GER). In the Crowdstrike-Lamborghini, Gerhard Watzinger (USA) will contest the season, who has already been active with Leipert in the 24h Series for the past two years.
With many years of experience in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the team from Wegberg, supported by MOTUL, wants to put an exclamation mark on the various driver classifications and fight for the title. On top of that a 6th Lamborghini Super Trofeo will run selected events of the 24h Series.
GT3 comeback with Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO
While Leipert Motorsport has made a name for itself in GT4 and the Super Trofeo in recent years, there is now exciting news: After a few years of abstinence, Leipert Motorsport is returning to GT3 racing. The team’s focus is on young up-and-coming drivers who are moving up from the Lamborghini Junior Programme and other categories looking for their way into GT3 racing. With the professional support of the team and Lamborghini Squadra Corse, young drivers are given the opportunity to gain a foothold in the GT3 environment. Therefor entries at selected events of the 24 Series are scheduled, among others the 12h Hockenheim, 24h Portimao and 24h Sebring. The drivers, who are currently confirmed, are Brendon Leitch from New Zealand, the American Tyler Cooke, the Germans Sebastian Balthasar and Fidel Leib. Guest starts in the GT World Challenge or Intercontinental GT Challenge are also not ruled out.
Quote of Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Squadra Corse:
“After many years of successful collaboration with Leipert Motorsport, working together to support the career of many young drivers in our Super Trofeo series in Europe and Asia, we are glad to start a new challenge in the GT3 program, involving well noted drives coming from our young drivers’ program on the Huracan GT3 EVO.”
Quote of Ingo & Marcel Leipert, Heads of Leipert Motorsport:
“We are proud to have put together such a strong program for the 2021 season. With the return to the ADAC GT4 and the very good line-up in the Super Trofeo Europe, the sporting base for a successful season should be in place. We are very glad to be able to run a GT3 program again. The fact that we will have a strong line-up with young GT3 newcomers is a good signal that the development of youngsters from Lamborghini and us is bearing fruit. We are happy about the close and trusting partnership with Lamborghini and are planning further long-distance and sprint assignments beyond the races mentioned.”
With the three components ADAC GT4 Germany, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe and the new junior support programme in the GT3 segment, Leipert Motorsport is facing an exciting challenge. The first race is already just around the corner: this week, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo starts the new season in Monza, Italy (16-19 April).
