Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Sunday, 24 January 2021:
After the season opener last week with a class win at the 24h race in Dubai, the team from Wegberg was able to celebrate another success at the following 6h race in neighbouring Abu Dhabi: 2nd place overall and in the GT class.
The 6h race as part of the 24h Series was held on the 5.554 km long Yas Marina Circuit. The fast Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO #710 was shared by the three drivers Gregg Gorski (USA), Gerhard Watzinger (USA) and Fidel Leib (Germany), who had already secured the GTX class victory in Dubai the previous week.
On Friday during qualifying, the #710 crew placed their Lamborghini 4th overall (P4 in the GT class) for the race.
The six-hour race started at 12:00 noon local time on Saturday at the Yas Marina Circuit. The race start was driven by the American Gregg Gorski. His forward momentum was not long in coming.
After a smooth stint, Gorski handed over the Huracán to German Fidel Leib. He implemented Gregg’s good preparatory work as well and continued to push forward.
The American Gerhard Watzinger, who took over the #710 from Leib, also did a great job. From the 3rd hour of the race onwards, the Leipert Lamborghini held P2 overall and was even able to hold the overall lead at times.
After another driver change from Watzinger to Leib the Lamborghini #710 crossed the finish line on P2 overall. A fantastic result for the drivers and the MOTUL supported team from Wegberg.
Ingo Leipert – Team Principal, Leipert Motorsport:
