Podium successes and important championship points at Circuit Paul Ricard

6. June 2022

At the second race weekend of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe as well as the FANATEC GT World Challenge Endurance, team and drivers convinced at the Circuit Paul Ricard (France) with podium finishes and points in the top 10 ranks with the six entered Lamborghini Huracán.

The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo was driven by Leitch/Cooke/Tutumlu-Lopez in the GTWC 6h race. The trio impressed with fast lap times in the race. A longer repair stop prevented a better placing than 11th in the Silver Class. In the LST, all five Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo delivered exciting fights in both races and crossed the finish line without exception in the top 10 of their classes – including class wins and podium finishes.

Fast lap times in the GWTC – front-end damage prevented top result

For their second round in the GWTC, the MOTUL-supported Leipert Motorsport team fielded the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo with Brendon Leitch (NZ), Tyler Cooke (USA) and Isaac Tutumlu-Lopez (ESP). The trio made a positive impression in free practice with the Lamborghini #27. In qualifying, however, Tutumlu got flat sports on his tyres during a spin, so that he was unable to set a good time. Since the starting position is determined by the average of all lap times of the three drivers, the Leipert trio was on the grid in P16 of the Silver Cup, P51 overall.

In the 6h race, however, things moved forward quickly. Starting driver Tutumlu pushed the Lamborghini up to 31st place in his two stints. Cooke, who then took over, did not have luck on his side. A piece of debris lying on the track damaged the front of the Lamborghini. A 20-minute repair break was the consequence. But the Leipert team did not give up. With good, constant lap times – especially final driver Leitch was the fastest driver on the track at times – the #27 Lamborghini fought its way back to 37th place. Rank 11 in the Silver Cup standings.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe – ten top 10 class finishes in two races – 3 podiums

Gabriel Rindone (AM classification, #21) showed a top performance. In race 1, he started from 2nd on the grid in his class and finished in 2nd place. In race 2 he topped this performance and took the class win. He thus extended his lead in the AM standings.

The duo Jürgen Krebs/Tim Müller (AM classification, #97) convinced again with a good performance. After starting 9th and 8th in the AM class, the two drove faultlessly to 4th and 7th place in the races.

Brendon Leitch and his partner Gerhard Watzinger (Pro-Am classification, # 70) finished on the podium in the first race. From 6th on the grid, the duo moved up to 3rd in the Crowdstrike Lamborghini. In the second race, they finished 6th after starting in 2nd place.

The duo Jean-Francois Brunot/Kerong Li (Pro-Am classification, #87) showed exciting fights and consistent performance. The duo started each race from 9th position in class. In the first race, they crossed the finish line in 8th place. In the second race, the Leipert duo was delighted with 9th place.

Leipert Motorsport junior driver David Serban (Pro classification, #18) again impressed with a good performance in France. After finishing 8th twice in qualifying, he proved his speed in the races. In race one he was 4th, in the second race the Romanian finished in 5th place.

Managing Directors Marcel Leipert & Marc Poos:

“In the Lamborghini Super Trofeo we had another very successful weekend. All cars in the top 10 of the classes and a class win on top of that. Team and drivers are well co-ordinated. We are looking forward to the next round of the LST in Misano at the beginning of July.”

“We are also basically satisfied in the FANATEC GTWC Endurance. The three drivers harmonised well in terms of lap times. In the race, the team and drivers demonstrated their quality. It was bad luck that we had front-end damage and had to replace the radiator, but these things happen. Praise to our mechanics who worked quickly and precisely. At the next race at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of July, we’ll be back in action. “

The season continues for Leipert Motorsport without a break. Already next weekend, the team from Wegberg will compete in the supporting programme of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans (France). At the event from 9 to 11 June, Gerhard Watzinger and Gregg Gorski (both USA) will drive a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo in two 1-hour races on the spectacular Le Mans circuit.
