Perfect start to the 2025 season for Leipert Motorsport with victory in the GTX class at the 24h Dubai

14. January 2025

Leipert Motorsport competed in the 24h of Dubai for the 19th time last week. The team from Wegberg, supported by PROFICAR, entered a Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2 in the United Arab Emirates. After an exciting race, Leipert Motorsport won the GTX class.

Pole-position for the Leipert-Lamborghini

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2 was driven by Gerhard Watzinger (USA), ‘Takis’ (SUI), Jia Jun Song (CHN), Don Yount (USA) and Brendon Leitch (NZ). During the pre-event tests and free practice, everything went smoothly and the drivers’ lap times were satisfactory. Watzinger, Leitch and Yount then lined up for qualifying. The average time of the three drivers’ fastest laps then counted towards the starting grid. In the end, the Leipert trio took pole-position in the GTX class.

An exciting 24-hour race without drama

Starting driver Leitch drove a double stint at the beginning and immediately put the Leipert-Lamborghini in a comfortable leading position, which the quintet did not relinquish for the entire race. Pit stops and driver changes worked perfectly. Over the course of the 24 hours, the Leipert team extended its lead further and further. At the finish, the team had a lead of more than 30 laps over the competition. This meant that the team didn’t have to risk anything in the final phase of the race and was able to manage the lead with confidence. Only the Lamborghini’s starter occasionally caused problems, so that the car had to be pushed during the stops. After crossing the finish line, Leipert Motorsport was delighted with their first success of the still young season.

Managing Directors Marcel Leipert & Marc Poos:

‘That was the start to the season that we wanted. After ending last season with a win, we also started the new year with a success. That gives us a positive outlook for the new season. The team did a great job and worked flawlessly. The spirit among the drivers was also excellent. All five drivers gave their best to bring home the victory. A 24-hour race in particular not only places the highest demands on the team and the car, but also on all the drivers, who did a great job! We are now going home satisfied and can prepare for the upcoming tasks in peace.’

Leipert Motorsport’s next race will probably not take place until the beginning of April this year. The team from Wegberg will then compete in the season opener of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia in Sydney, Australia, before heading to the season opener of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. The team’s GT3 programme for this year will also be announced shortly.
