The fourth event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe started last weekend at the Nürburgring in the Eifel. Leipert Motorsport entered a Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO 2 in its home race. The second car had to be cancelled at short notice because a guest entrant fell ill. As a result, Sebastian Balthasar/Jacob Riegel (Germany) kept the Leipert flags flying high and put in a strong performance. After 7th place in the rainy, chaotic first race, the driver duo secured the podium for the MOTUL-supported team from Wegberg in the second race.
In typical Eifel weather – in addition to heavy rain, there were dry phases and finally sunshine on the traditional German race track – the first free practice session on a wet track went well for Balthasar/Riegel (#70, Pro classification). In the second session in dry conditions, the Leipert duo then set the fastest time.
Both drivers completed qualifying on the rainy Saturday with aplomb. Balthasar put the Leipert-Lamborghini in grid position 5 in the starting field of 48 cars, while Riegel took grid position 9 on a wet track.
In the first race in the rain, Balthasar got off to a good start but then lost a few positions and came back from the starting lap in 8th place. The duo then fought their way back to the front and crossed the finish line in 6th place. A subsequent penalty for causing a collision threw the Leipert team back to 7th position.
Riegel got off to a sensational start in race two in the sunshine. Starting from 9th on the grid, he stormed up to 4th place on the first lap. After some great battles, he eventually maintained 7th place until the pit stop. Balthasar then fought his way forwards continuously and crossed the finish line in third place. The second podium finish for the German Leipert duo this season.
Managing Directors Marcel Leipert & Marc Poos:
‘The team and the drivers did another impeccable job at the Nürburgring. The conditions in the Eifel were certainly not easy due to the weather, but we mastered them very well. The podium finish for our young driver duo was well deserved. Now we’re going to take a summer break and then we’ll go on the offensive again at the last LST races. ’
The next LSTE event will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Spain, 11-13 October).
