First full-season GT3 programme confirmed for 2023 in Michelin Le Mans Cup

21. February 2023

Leipert Motorsport will enter two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars in the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2023 – unfortunately, the organisers were unable to consider the entry of a third car due to the full grid.

Leipert Motorsport from Wegberg, supported by MOTUL, has been fielding Lamborghini racing cars in various racing series since 2011. This year, the team around the two managing directors Marcel Leipert and Marc Poos will compete in the Michelin Le Mans Cup for a full season for the first time with two vehicles, having already been active as guest entrants in Le Mans in 2022.

Michelin Le Mans Cup:

The Michelin Le Mans Cup is held over six events. Five rounds are held as 2-hour races within the European Le Mans Series. The highlight of the calendar is the sixth event as part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The first round will start on 21/22 April 2023 in Barcelona (ES). The other venues are Imola (I), Le Mans (F), Le Castellet (F), Spa-Francorchamps (B) and Portimao (PT).

Driver Line Up #19 & #70:

The Lamborghini GT3 EVO2 with the #19 will be driven by Gabriel Rindone (I) and Patrick Kujala (FI).

Gabriel Rindone is Leipert’s regular driver from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. In his third year with the team, Rindone is active in both the Le Mans Cup and the 2023 Asian Le Mans Series, where he celebrated one of the greatest successes of his career to date with fourth place overall. Patrick Kujala was already GT-AM Champion in 2022 in the Asian Le Mans Series and has a lot of experience with the Lamborghini GT3.

The #70 Crowdstrike Lamborghini GT3 EVO2 is driven by Gerhard Watzinger (USA) and Brendon Leitch (NZ). Gerhard Watzinger (USA), like Lamborghini junior driver Brendon Leitch (New Zealand), is in his fifth year with Leipert Motorsport. While Watzinger has already competed twice (2017 and 2022) in the “Road to Le Mans”, Leitch’s entry in the Michelin Le Mans Cup is already the second GT3 series in which he will compete with Leipert Motorsport in 2023. Leitch was also part of the driver line-up that finished the Asian Le Mans Series in fourth position last weekend.

Managing Directors Marcel Leipert & Marc Poos:

“We are looking forward to the new challenge in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with the two Lamborghini GT3s.

Our driver pairings are very competitive and we are very well positioned for the fight for the title. The programme is the basis for further races, which in the medium term should lead to the endurance classic, the 24h of Le Mans. We would have liked to have brought another car to the start, but unfortunately the car was not considered when the grid was allocated due to the high number of starters. We will announce our further GT3 programme as well as our Lamborghini Super Trofeo line-up shortly.”
